Shirley Catch Guide Service in Portland, Oregon is led by Captain Zachary Shirley, a local angler with a lifetime of experience on Oregon’s rivers and coastal waters. Growing up in a fishing family, he spent countless days learning how the seasons, tides, and conditions shape each outing. Those early years built a foundation of knowledge and respect for the Pacific Northwest’s fisheries, shaping the steady, patient approach he’s known for today.
Captain Zach has a deep connection to Oregon salmon fishing and takes pride in understanding the habits and patterns of these sought-after species. His time on the water—from Portland’s urban stretches to Warrenton’s productive coastal fishery—has given him a clear understanding of where fish move and how to adjust techniques as the day unfolds. Whether targeting salmon, sturgeon, crab, or rainbow trout, he focuses on reading the conditions and using methods that match the moment.
Anglers joining Captain Zach can expect a guide who is attentive, approachable, and genuinely invested in creating a comfortable atmosphere on the water. He’s committed to helping guests understand each technique, whether that involves light tackle, bottom fishing, trolling, spinning, or drift fishing. His steady leadership and calm presence make the experience enjoyable for newcomers and seasoned anglers alike, offering the reassurance that comes with fishing alongside someone who knows these waters inside and out.
